As the Northern California wine industry has expanded beyond its traditional valleys, the unique characteristics of this area have enticed wine industry luminaries and entrepreneurs such as the Colgins, the Bryant Family, Robert Long and the Chappellets to invest in properties within five miles of this site. The world famous wineries of Pritchard Hill are within two to three miles of Chiles Valley.
A longtime Chiles Valley neighbor, Volker Eisele, garnered praise from Robert Parker who attributed “unmistakable elegance and impeccable balance” to Eisele’s award-winning wines. Other neighbors’ grapes are used in such fine wines as Robert Mondavi, Louis Martini, White Oak and Groth.
To the north of Chiles Valley lies Pope Valley where R. Michael Mondavi, Merryvale Winery, Julianna Vineyards and others have recently purchased land. Calistoga Ranch developers, Bill Criswell and Robert Radovan, along with Billy Getty and R. Michael Mondavi have just bought the historic Aetna Springs Resort and plan to restore it to its former grandeur and turn it into a private club. Thus Chiles Valley is poised to become part of a fashionable corridor that will run from Saint Helena, past Pritchard Hill, through Chiles Valley to Aetna Springs.
